Meet the Team: Shanee Mikkelson

June 19, 2019

Through the month of June and into July, we'll be introducing one of our team members every week.

This week, meet our Interior Designer, Shanee! She graduated from SDSU last year, and has just celebrated her 1 year work anniversary with RSA last month -- though she's really been a part of the team since the summer between her junior and senior years when she interned at RSA.

Who is your favorite architect?
Frank Gehry, because his buildings truly are a work of art with their fragmented pieces and unusual shapes creating eye-catching views from every point of his buildings.

What is your favorite memory so far at RSArchitects?
When Gary Stanley took our entire office out to the golf course to play a round of golf, feed us, and encourage us on our work.

What is your favorite phase of the design process?
My favorite phase in design is the schematic phase. When I am introduced to a project my mind instantly starts to flood with ideas. In the schematic phase I get to research, draw, model, and explore endless options to show my clients. To me this is the most exciting phase, because this is when all the thoughts and conversations start to come to life.

Describe RSArchitects in one word:
Solidarity.
Our team values our clients and respect who they are as individuals. We have one clear goal and dedicated purpose, and that is to provide the best for our clients.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
I am a big family person, so spending time with my family will always be first on my list. My favorite is when we do family (and usually friends) game night, which usually results in a comical competition with no obvious winner.

What is your latest adventure?
My latest adventure is welcoming a new puppy to our family. She is quite a handful, but I have loved and savored every minute of it.

What is your dream vacation?
My ultimate Dream Vacation is to go to Germany. I took German all through high school and had such a wonderful experience from it, and ever since I have had a longing to visit Germany.

Where is your favorite place to eat?
I am always excited to go to Mackenzie River. The atmosphere, food, and people have always been wonderful there.

What is the best meal/food you've ever had?
My family took a spontaneous trip to Branson Missouri, and during that trip, we found a restaurant with the most incredible fried brownie. The brownie was so good we actually went back the next night to share one again.

What is something people might find surprising about you?
I basically grew up around golf. I have worked at the same golf course since I was able to drive, and even before that I was always out there with my parents.
