As part of the Sioux Falls School District’s Capitol Improvement Program, Garfield Elementary School underwent a major remodel and several additions, including the addition of the new Oyate Community Center. New construction includes an enlarged art room, staff workroom, meeting rooms, new library, and administrative offices.
In conjunction with the Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Department, a new Community Center with an enlarged gymnasium was added to the building, including a reception area, equipment storage and kitchen preparation area. Total addition areas include 25,000 square feet.
A 14,000 SF, two-story education wing was added in 2004. The new space includes 6 pre-k classrooms, 4 kindergarten rooms, and 2 classrooms.
